Has everyone, by now, read the story about the woman who was arrested for poking someone on Facebook?

I have read post after post with headlines like, “Be Careful Who You Poke” (and that oughtta be “whom”, by the way) or some such thing. Except … if people would actually stop to read the STORY — you know … the actual FACTUAL part? — they’d see that the poking is really only an ancillary detail.

She was arrested for violating the terms of a RESTRAINING ORDER.

In this case, the poke wasn’t some benign piece of harmless contact. No. The person that was poked had been so harassed by this woman that she had implemented a legal restraining order that stipulated NO CONTACT WHATSOEVER from her. None. No phone calls, no letters, no email, no NOTHING. And that includes poking.

If you had a stalker or someone who was harassing you, wouldn’t you be freaked out by getting “poked”? I know I would be.

And for those of you who are about to say, “Well, then why is she Facebook friends with this person?” She wasn’t. You don’t have to be “friends” with someone to “poke” them.

So, folks … while the Facebook poke was the catalyst for this woman’s arrest, she was arrested for being an idiot. And a STALKER.
